Abstract

In this unique project we have tried to study the influence of music upon infants – newborns . We have tested the EEG signals from the babies mind while listening to a variety of musical pieces. Processing these EEG signals was a complicated issue , knowing that EEG signals are full of noise from the environment , we have used a great number of well known digital processing algorithms.

Background

The EEG signals are ElectroEncephaloGram signals , meaning they are individual signals , such as little dipoles , each dipole is individual and not related to the others , the idea of processing these signals and finding a specific pattern is a difficult issue . our assumption at the beginning was that if there is an influence of the music upon the human brain (EEG signals) it would be described as a pattern that appears every time music is broadcasted. That was our launching point , and our guiding rule .

The basic approach

As mentioned before , we have tried to look for a certain pattern in the EEG signals (looking at the Freq. Time space) that appears every time the baby listens to music.

Tools

Our basic tool was Matlab 7.01 .

Conclusions
Our final result is that there is NO influence of the music upon infants (testing EEG signals) , but , we encourage further testing and researching in this subject with several advices and changes that should be made (As listed in the final report)
